Here
is a magical 90 minutes, a New Year's Eve broadcast from RTF, a French
television network, celebrating the arrival of 1969 with live appearances
by some of the biggest names in popular music [including Pink Floyd,
The Who, Joe Cocker, Fleetwood Mac and many others]. This was an historic
moment - the first New Year's Eve broadcast in the world - aimed squarely
at a youth audience. Significantly, it was produced five years before
the first Dick ClarkRockin' New Year's Eve in
1973.
The
project [promoted as Suprise Partie] was directed by Guy
Job, who had also co-produced a music-oriented series for Radiodiffusion
Télévision Française with Serge Gainsbourg
called Dim Dam Dom since 1965. This New Year's Eve production
is a rare opportunity to see a cavalcade of musical supergroups, up-close
and personal. All the performers are playing live [not lip-synced] in
various studios and singing in English. Please
note: There is an occasional RTF network logo dimly displayed
in the upper right corner of the screen.
