A group
of strangers risk their lives when they are invited to a private screening
of a horror movie in an old grindhouse theater.
This
debut film by scriptwriter Wang Ming was originally produced as a knock-off
for the popular HAUNTED
CINEMA series. But once the studio took a look at it, the movie
got a big promotional push throughout Asia, especially Singapore, Taiwan
and Hong Kong [where authorities are not as committed to the Chinese
ban on horror films]. It's a big, professional project with numerous
scares and some interesting twists. The roots obviously go back to Lamberto
Bava's "Demons." But it's also very reminiscent
of the Indonesian gory slasher MIDNIGHT
SHOW.
The
English title is a clever riddle, meaning either "Enter at your
own risk" or "Enter and die." In this case,
either answer is true.
