director: Del Shores
starring Olivia Newton-John · Chloe Rose (Chloe Lattanzi) ·
Swoosie Kurtz · Robert Lewis Stephenson
Here
is another virtually 'lost' film of Olivia Newton-John (also see
her first movie FUNNY
THINGS HAPPEN DOWN UNDER and her SciFi musical TOOMORROW).
Olivia plays Jasmine Wilde, a middle-age single mom working at an animal
shelter. No one knows [including her 14 year-old daughter, Izzy] that
mom used to be a relatively famous pop singer who had a career downfall
caused by the promiscuous drug-infused world of rock-n-roll. But now,
as Izzy begins to show signs of being a talented singer, Jasmine is terrified
that her daughter may fall into the same temptations of stardom. After
a high talent show, Izzy is spotted by a hot-shot California record producer
and invited to an audition. Conflict soon erupts when the father-she-never-knew
(now owner of a Hollywood music store) comes into her life and opens the
door to drugs, sex and rock-n-roll that mom had so desperately tried to
keep closed.
This is ultimately
a mom-daughter feel good relationship melodrama with some rough
moments (it was rated PG14) and, of course. it also has a lot of music.
Olivia sings new songs quite efficiently and her real-life daughter Chloe
Rose belts out some infectious pop songs [unfortunately she's just not
a cute as mom was at the same age]. Essentially, it's a fun flick, an
absolute must see for ON-J fans.
